Where are we located?

The Gunnison Basin

Vegetation -  Primarily sagebrush steppe, alpine forest and high alpine tundra.
Land Ownership - ~80% Public land

Population - 16,939


Located in South Central Colorado, Gunnison Basin's and landscape make it an exceptional palce for large-scale ecological efforts. Large tracts of public land and a history of collaborative conservation have made Gunnison renown for ecological research and conservation programs. Primarily comprised of high desert, sagebrush steppe, it's home to the ESA listed Gunnison Sage-grouse . Managing the spread of cheatgrass is essential to protecting the essential habitat of the Gunnison Sage grouse which also supports cattle ranching and recreation, two essential economic drivers and livelihoods in Gunnison County.
